I just announced that the Final Countdown is now in play. Everyday starting tomorrow, I'll add another historical #1 Jack Kirby cover to the Gallery section. The #1,000th page will be my pick among the 10 covers as the best!

Stay tuned and check back or follow me on Twitter or Like What if Kirby on Facebook. Thanks to everyone for making this site a success and excellent resource for study Jack Kirby.

A Hellishly Good Choice

You DEFINITELY made the right choice, Tom. The Demon is a better series than Kamandi and the cover to Demon #1 is better than the cover to Kamandi #1. The people who disagreed with your decision were probably Stan Worshippers whose eternal destiny is the blazing pit itself!!!

Re: 1,000

Putting aside the merits of each series, I think Demon #1 cover is a much better example of sheer Kirby creativitiy, perspective, and dynamism than Kamandi #1 cover. In my opinion you made the right call, Tom.

Devil of a choice

As a series I far preferred The Demon. The fact the cover of Kamandi #1 was been chopped up by the good old boys in New York makes the cover art for The Demon an easy call.
Original art is, and always has been way off the charts as far as something I could afford to purchase, but IF I was a collector cover art would be the very last thing I'd ever collect for pleasure. It's not just the paste-ups, but the art itself is very often butchered.

Post 1,000

Now that we've reached 1,000 pages and are moving on I received some feed back on the #1 and #2 choices for the top 10 on my recent trip to WonderCon in Anaheim, CA.

Some suggest that Kamandi should have been #1 and Demon #2. For me it was a hard decision. I even mentioned that in a post before the count down. I selected the Demon because of the strength of the art and the impact the series had on me. Thats not to say that Kamandi didn't but I felt from an artistic point of view, the Demon cover was stronger. What is your opinion?
