I think it's funny that neither Jack nor Stan were paying much attention to their own writing on this page. First, Kirby's margin note for panel two indentifies the site of that eruption as a "state park -- nobody there -- off-season." Yet, he shows the state park road far below as being clogged with vehicles! Meanwhile, Stan says in panel two that the "entire planet" is undergoing an upheaval, and also that "no region" is unaffected -- and in the very next panel, he says the blasts have been limited to the east coast. It's like they were both half-awake, or watching TV or something, while they worked.
