Eh...

I know alot of folks feel Giacoia was a great inker for Jack but he work always looks flat and lifeless to me. It just seems to make Jack's 3 dimensional images look simplistic and 1 dimensional. Yes, I know, Jack liked Frank's inks too but that doesn't change things any bit. This cover is ripe for Royerization in a recreation.

Simplicity is true sophistication!

Simply gorgeous and such a relief after Syd Shores's inking run!

This is simply--

--one of the greatest covers of all time. This would be a holy grail page for me. Always dug it.

"cap goes wild"

And wouldn't we like to see this without that caption!!!? I bet Jack didn't make the background black like that. Maybe some adjustments were made once it was decided to go black back there?

It IS a ceiling--and Jack DID know the logo went there--

I'm guessing we're not missing much. And the black just works. Nice balance.

Can't help but wonder what it looked like under that caption though. From what we can see of the android's foot--it looks a bit awkward/dainty. It could be that caption is hiding some strangeness. I'd be awfully tempted to take a peek.

Whoever owns this--wanna throw it on a light table and trace what's under there?

Darkened backround...

It was not strange that Marvel art director chose to darken the background or remove some elements to make the logo easier to read, and maybe this happened also in this cover. You can see a few samples of darkened backgrounds here:

Strange cuts

There are some weird cuts near the android's head. Wonder what was moved/changed? I'm assuming his double lit back is Romita's work.

Side line

I would guess Romita modified the side of the face, he retouched the outline and ear. The cheekbone and part of the jaw don't look much like Kirby or Giacoia's doing.

Romita

CA's face has also be retouched, looks very much like Romita.
