Lettering

When you compare Kirby's work at DC with his latest run at Marvel, you can see how a good lettering can make the difference. Royer's or Bruce's lettering can't compare with Constanza's, which is one of the best, ever. I admit that Royer has a distinctive look, but this doesn't mean that it has to be a good one.

RE: Lettering

I'll have to both agree and disagree with you on this, Ferran. Yes, John Costanza was an excellent letterer. And yes, I have to admit that D. Bruce Berry was a pretty bad inker and an absolutely terrible letterer. But you can't compare Berry to Mike Royer. Royer was a superb inker AND letterer. His lettering on books like ETERNALS was as good as Costanza's in most places, and his splash-page TITLE lettering--which reached its peak in this series--was better than Costanza's.

Personal taste.

They are both good letterers, but I'm going to say Mike Royer is more my taste. The form of the letters and balloons are just more what I like to read with Royer's lettering. Didn't Costanza letter the DC books Colletta inked?

Costanza

Yes, John Costanza did indeed letter Jack's Colletta-inked comics at DC.

Return of the Gods

I just noticed something else about this page that's pretty cool. It's got a stamp at the top that says "Return of the Gods". Makes me wonder how far ahead Jack was on his schedule before the decision was made to change the book's title to THE ETERNALS.
