Syd Shores makes me long for Colletta--

--put this splash fared better than most.

aw c'mon...

..this is a great page!

imo, shores brought a unique style to his inks over kirby.
the SA kirby/shores cap run was the first SA comics i read, so the shores-embellished images left an indelible impression on me.

i can see why a heavily kirby-tech page would benefit from sinnott inks, or kirby's rawness from giacoia, etc but to me, this is classic SA kirby cap.

but ur entitled to yer opinion, and i can see how one might bucket shores and colletta if one is inclined to dislike them both.

This one's not bad--

On others Shores really KILLS the expressions and makes it all bland. Cap looks a bit like he's sleepwalking here, actually but it's not brutally bad.

Excuse my bad…

… but I find it no good!
Hey Frank and Erik, here's an unused Kirby page, still in pencils form, with Black Panther:

This was probably intended for TOS #98, the last issue inked by Joe Sinnott before Syd Shores took over.

I hope it will be as much a torment for you than it is for me!

Kid from the sixties.

I was a youngster during this time when these comics were new coming to my local drugstore in Chicago. And after seeing Joe Sinnott inking Cap for a few issues, Sid Shores was a huge let down.
