[UPDATED 8.29] If Jack Kirby was still with us, today would have been his 94th birthday. Seventeen years after his passing, Jack's creations and contributions to comics is as strong as ever as event with this year's big screen movie releases of Thor and Captain America. Kirby Genesis, a new comic book series, is taking Jack's own concepts and characters in new directions by some of today's greatest comic book talents. So Kirby is everywhere and awareness of his creativity will only grow.
To celebrate his birthday, below is a never seen before birthday card in comic art spread format to celebrate Jack's 75th birthday. It was recently archived at the San Diego Comic Con International thanks to Paul Power who created the art and concept along with Steve Rude and Chic Stone.
And just added another Jack Kirby 75th birthday tribute from Frank Fosco featuring many of Kirby's characters and creations.
Today also marks a year since What if Kirby relaunched from its simple origins to today's site with 100s of pages of Kirby original art and creations to view and study. The Jack Kirby Digital Archive has since grown from 600 pages archived to today's 1,650 pages and will continue to grow thanks to the contribution of original art dealers and private collectors.
This coming year will introduce more Kirby influenced creations with the Avengers movie release and more Kirby Genesis comic books!
Happy 94th, Jack
